Praying People

Anyone who knows me well knows that I don't pray. But everyone will also know that I will do absolutely anything to comfort my mommy. We have all said more Hail Mary's in the last few days than I am sure we have ever said in our whole catholic lives. Mom will wake up and start the prayer but always in the middle "Holy Mary, Mother of God..." and then we will start from the beginning and say it until she falls back to sleep. Once when I was alone with her she asked me to pray so I started "Hail Mary..." But she said "no, start it!" After a few frustrating moments I realized that she wanted me to start at the end just like she does. Is this something from her childhood?

We have done other parts of the rosary too and you can definitely tell that she is reliving her speed praying days from St. Gabes. I could hardly keep up.

Tonight, she said to pray with her and I did, but then as she was calming down I told her that a lot of people were praying for her and I started to list them. She just listened quietly (and quietly is exactly what we are going for these days). I started with the Aunts and Uncles and it was working so well that I moved down to the cousins and second cousins until she fell asleep. I know that she appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers so don't make a liar out of me.

I can tell you why your mom comes in at the 2nd half of the Hail Mary. During Lent, when we were young, the family gathered together every Friday evening and knelt down in front of a chair or the sofa to say the rosary. For the Hail Marys, our mother would say the first half and the rest of us would come in for the 2nd half. I believe this is what your mom is relating to. Just as an aside, our father replied in French, as the rest of us did in English.

We knew it had to be something like that. Thanks.

I just want you all to know my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Please hug your mom for me and let her know I'm thinking of her.

Thanks, Kim. You were on the list of people I told mom were praying for her. We will keep telling her.
