Mommy passed quietly in her sleep tonight at midnight. Her breathing was labored with the fluid filling her lungs and stopped a couple of times before the actual end.
We are working on plans for a memorial service. We will post as soon as details are finalized.

To all,
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Rest assured she has "gone home" and is now without pain. She will be watching over each one of you.
Love,
Kim Gaughan
To the Family,
I read her blog everyday and I prayed that she would be out of pain, but I thought she would get better. I will call Joanne in Florida and Aunt Julia in Montreal.
Her and I played as children. She and I went on double dates and she stood up in my wedding. Larry and I took her out to dinner. I truly believe she is happy now that she is with her Mom and Dad and Karl.
But she was suppose to get better and not leave us and go on her cruise. I can't quit crying.
I admire all you girls for taking care of her. God Bless you all.
Love,
Elise and Larry
My heart breaks for your family and all of the rest of us. She will be sorely missed by those of us who loved her and also anyone who ever knew her. I'm keeping with my plans to fly to Detroit tomorrow to be with all of you. I know that you are all very strong and will weather this storm in the manner that you know your mother would like.
We prayed for her to be pain free and to get well. God provided only one and we accept God's will. Let us all accept that she has gone to a place that her magnanimous personality will be appreciated.
To Paulette's Family and Friends,
I am very sorry about Paulette and I am so sad for all of us who loved her. She was a very fine person and greatly loved. We will all miss her very much.
Yesterday afternoon after I saw the post, I could not help crying but I too wanted her to be out of pain. I will miss her very much.
Love and condolences to all Paulette's family and friends and much admiration to her daughters for all their devoted love and care for her. I am sure that it meant a lot to her.
Love,
Sandra Zynda
We all will miss and mourn the loss of such a wonderful person to love and know, I know how hard it is to lose a loved one especially a parent. No words can heal the loss, but knowing that the one you love the most is free from pain and is with the ONE who can make all things great, will give you peace one day and that day WILL come. My love and thoughts go out to all family and friends. I will continue to keep all in our prayers.
Love Always,
Krista Slechta - Smitherman
I am so sorry to hear about this, but I too am glad that she is out of pain. Though of course for those left behind, the pain is still very real. I will continue praying for you girls and the rest of the family.
Although I did not know her particularly well, from the times I have met her and the last couple of years I have interacted with her through blogs, I can tell she was a great lady. I really did appreciate her kind comments, and I enjoyed reading her reminiscences in her blog. I truly will miss that.
Again, I will be extending my thoughts and prayers for everyone that Aunt Paulette loved so much. I thank GOD for the gift of her in our lives, and I pray that HE will watch over and bless you (as I'm sure she will do as well).

Kathy, Gretchen, Erica & Adrienne,
My heart aches for all of you. I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I know it was hard for all of you to see her in so much pain, but at least now she is pain free & peaceful and up there with Karl.
God bless all of you.
Love,
Debbie Meagher (Smitherman) & Family
I too enjoyed reading all the remembrances she wrote in her blog recently. And I was fortunate enough to know her like a nephew for many years.
She had intelligence, kindness, and a great sense of humor. Hard to find people with all of that these days.
Best wishes to all the family,
Tim B.
